Earth Week 2006

In April 2006, the Gunn Environmental Club and the Gunn Organic Club collaborated to put on Gunn's first ever Earth Week. The activities ran April 17-21 and included a wealth of lunchtime activities, including:

  • A solar cooking demonstration on the quad and a raffle for two solar-cooking cookbooks
  • A free cloth bag giveaway (bags provided by the City of Palo Alto)
  • A screening of a film about recycling electronics (provided by Los Altos-based company GreenCitizen
  • A speech by Palo Alto City Councilman Peter Drekmeier in the Student Activites Center with free refreshments donated by local food vendors
  • A hands-on demonstration of an exercise bike that powers both incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
  • Free samples of organic and local food
  • Nalgene reusable water bottle sale
  • An environmental photo exhibit

On Saturday, April 22, the club co-hosted an Earth Day electronics recycling event with GreenCitizen, Inc. The Environmental Club received 10% of the profits. Announcements like this one ran in many PAUSD school newsletters.
