This year, the Gunn Green Team and the Student Executive Council worked to greenify Homecoming, the annual school spirit week that takes place every fall. The main event they worked on was the Homecoming Barbecue, an event the PTSA puts on for students on the Thursday of Homecoming week during float stuffing. The PTSA purchased biocompostable plates, cups and cutlery from a Palo Alto company called World Centric. These products are made out of corn and potato derivatives and can biodegrade completely within a few months. PASCO then transported all of the food waste and biocompostable products to the Z-Best compost facility in Gilroy.

There was no bottled water at the event. Instead, the PTSA distributed biocompostable cups filled with tap water to students. Read more about why bottled water is not environmentally-friendly in this New York Times editorial and feature
