Waste reduction

 Paper usage

  • Gunn no longer prints a copy of the 96-page Student Handbook for every student. Students and parents can now either find the handbook online or pick up a hard copy in the main office.
  • The main office prints unofficial documents on paper that has already been used on one side.
  • Gunn no longer sends a copy of the monthly school newsletter, The Spotlight, to every student. It is now available online.
  • Teachers who get unwanted junk mail can get put the mailings in a bin in the main office. Volunteers then call the companies that send the mailings and ask them to remove the teacher from the mailing list.
  • Teachers have a limit on the number of pages they are allowed to print.
  • Double-sided copying is set as the default on the school's copy machines. The school uses 10% recycled-content paper in the copy room.
  • School elections are held online the  waste associated with paper ballots.
  • The school stocks all bathrooms with unbleached, recycled hand towels and toilet paper.
